HOLMES CO., OHIO COVERLETS - Two wool coverlets made in Holmes Co., Ohio, the first an overshot coverlet, mid-19th century, in five colors: red, blue, green, white, and black. With center seam and fringe. 79” long, 61” wide w/o fringe; together with a jacquard coverlet, attributed to William Eichner. Centerfield with rows of medallions with plumes and pointsettias, offset with crossed palmetto fans. Side borders with pinwheels and blossoms. Bottom border with rose bushes. Corner blocks inscribed ”Berlin Holmes Co. 1840.” With center seam, and formerly fringed on three sides. 72” long, 52” wide w/o fringe. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio. Jacquard coverlet: Severe fringe and fabric loss. Some staining. Warped along fold lines. Some separation in center seam.
