SIGNED OHIO STAR QUILT AND FLORAL APPLIQUE QUILT - Two quilts: the first, American, 19th century, cotton. A patchwork quilt composed of blue and yellow Ohio stars offset on a white ground. Signed ”Laura Kingsbury No. 6” in a script that was written on the fabric at least twice before cutting. Hand-pieced and quilted. 88” long, 87” wide, with bed post cutouts; together with an applique quilt composed of blocks with flower sprigs, offset with 8-point Ohio stars. Solid red, green, and cheddar fabrics on solid white ground. Hand-pieced and quilted. 85” long, 73” wide. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio; Kingsbury quilt: from Midwest Fabric Study Group, 2015. Floral applique quilt: from Dee Dadik, Midwest Fabric Study Group, 2016.
