CHESTNUT LEAF PATTERN JACQUARD COVERLET, ATTR. F. HESSE, OHIO - Maybe Perry Co., Ohio, 1851. A jacquard coverlet in red and natural, with ”Chestnut Leaf” pattern. Centerfield contains radial leaf medallions offset with flowers, leaves, and stars. Border contains birds, vines, and flowersx. Corner blocks read ”Chestnut Leaf Somerset 1851.” Center seam, fringed on three sides. Attributed to Frederick Hesse, working in Somerset OH in the 1840s and 1850s. 79” long, 74” wide w/o fringe. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio.
