OVERSHOT COVERLETS, INCLUDING PENNSYLVANIA COVERLET WITH RESEARCH - American, 19th century, wool. Two overshot coverlets, the first in red, white, and blue. Centerfield with tiled blossom design. With center seam and fringed on three sides. 89” long, 70” wide w/o fringe; together with a Pennsylvania example in red, indigo, and white. Centerfield with rosette design. With center seam, fringed on bottom edge. Made for Mary Garman (1827-1903) c. 1845. She married shoemaker Henry McQuate in Lebanon Co. Pennsylvania in 1847. 92” long. 72” wide w/o fringe. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio.
