OVERSHOT COVERLETS - American, 19th century, wool. Two overshot coverlets. The first in red, indigo, and white. Centerfield with a plaid pattern. With center seam, and fringed on three sides. 87” long, 67” wide w/o fringe; together with a coverlet in red, indigo, purple, and white. Geometric snowball and rosette centerfield with pine tree border. With center seam, and fringed on three sides. 76” long, 68” wide w/o fringe. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio. Condition: Red, indigo, and white coverlet: fringe loss on bottom. Discoloration and some stains. There is a ~12” circumference spot that is bright white and has not browned (colors still bold, not faded). Red, indigo, purple, and white coverlet: Some separation in center seam. Discoloration along bottom. Some fringe loss. Warped along fold lines.
