STARK CO., OHIO JACQUARD COVERLETS, SIGNED ISAAC SHAEFFER - Stark Co., Ohio, 1846. Two jacquard coverlets: the first, one half of a jacquard coverlet in indigo, red, and white. Centerfield contains rows of pomegrante branches and palmetto fans, offset with snowflakes and 8-point stars. Borders with tulips and overflowing vases. Corner block inscribed ”Isaac Sheaffer Coverlet Weaver L+A-B 1846.” Shaeffer was weaving in New Berlin (now part of Canton), Ohio in the 1840s. Fringed on one side (bottom previously fringed, now completely cropped). 81” long, 39” wide w/o fringe; together with one half of a jacquard coverlet in red, indigo, and white. Centerfield with double roses offset with blossoms, with 8-point star fillers. Borders with tulips and overflowing vases. Corner block inscribed ”Isaac Shaeffer Coverlet Weaver New Berlin 1846.” Shaeffer was weaving in New Berlin (now part of Canton), Ohio in the 1840s. Fringed on two sides. 81” long, 41” wide w/o fringe. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio.
