WAYNE CO., OHIO JACQUARD COVERLETS, SIGNED - Wayne Co., Ohio, 1839 and 1843. Three jacquard coverlets: the first in indigo and white. Centerfield has floral crosses in a grid with botanical filler. Side borders have roosters in crescents over blossoms. Bottom border has a town. Corner blocks inscribed ”P J Hartman Wooster Ohio 1839.” Peter and John Hartman were brothers from Pennsylvania who moved to Ohio. Peter mostly worked in Wayne County, and John in Ashland County. They worked together for a short time. Fringed on three sides, with center seam. 82” long. 70” wide w/o fringe; the second, a coverlet in red, indigo, teal, and white. Centerfield has curling leaves with grapevine wreaths, offset by snowflakes. Borders have roses and grapevines. Corner blocks inscribed ”Peter Hartman Wooster Ohio 1843.” Fringed on three sides, with center seam. 90” long, 72” wide w/o fringe; the third, a coverlet in in gold, pink, indigo, and white. Centerfield with rows of solid rose pots separated by grapes. Side borders contain roses, grapevines, and eagles. Corner blocks have oak leaf trademark, inscribed ”Peter Hartman Wooster Ohio 1843.” Fringed on three sides, with center seam. 88” long, 75” wide, w/o fringe.
