COVERLETS, SIGNED CHARLES MEILY - Two jacquard coverlets, both signed Charles Meily. The first, jacquard coverlet in pink, indigo, and white. Centerfield features double roses offset by blossoms and stars. Grapevine borders with additional bands of stars at sides. Corner block inscribed ”Chs Meily Wayne County Ohio” and bottom edge inscribed 1848. Fringed on bottom edge, with center seam. 72” long, 69” wide w/o fringe; the second, One half of a jacquard coverlet in gold, red, indigo, and white. Centerfield consists of rows of foliate crosses offset by botanical filler. Side border contains roosters in crescents, over blossoms. Bottom border contains distelfink and rosebush. Corner block inscribed ”Charles Meily, Crawford County Illinois.” Fringed on two sides. 84” long, 36” wide w/o fringe. Provenance: The Collection of the late Dr. Virginia Gunn, Wooster, Ohio.
