Bidspirit auction | WEST VIRGINIA BASKET
WEST VIRGINIA BASKET - Wilbur Veith, Falls Mills, c. 1946, oak splint. Large rectangular basket with two swing handles. 31” long. Peter Wilbur Veith (1903-1990) was the fourth of at least nine children born to Samuel Audith Veith and Samantha Alice Cobb. He remained on the family farm in Braxton County, West Virginia his entire life, taking over when his father died in 1939. There are also a number of families in the county with the surname of Bright, and as this name appears to be a diminutive – Mittie or Nettie, it is difficult to be certain to which Bright the handwritten note refers. Provenance: an Ohio collection. NOTE: We are happy to answer questions and take additional photos of lots prior to the auction (the sooner submitted the better).
