Bidspirit auction | PORTRAIT OF A FARM
PORTRAIT OF A FARM - Probably Columbiana County, Ohio, late 19th century, ink and wash on paper. View of the prosperous Stofer farm. 11” high, 17.5” wide (sight); in a late 19th century frame, 16.75” hih, 26.75” wide. Portraits of farms were very popular in the Midwest thanks to the county atlases that often included them, as well as artists like Ferdinand Brader and E.L. Ott. This drawing was collected in Columbiana County and there were many Stofers/Stouffers in that area, including multiple Jameses and Jacobs, including a Jacob L. Stoffer (1830-1919), a prosperous carpenter in Knox Township. Provenance: an Ohio collection.
