Bidspirit auction | OHIO DECORATED TALL-CASE CLOCK
OHIO DECORATED TALL-CASE CLOCK - Trumbull County, c. 1825, poplar. Flat top, shaped base, original faux rosewood graining. Unsigned brass movement with floral-decorated dial. 83” high. The use of poplar and a couple of distinctive constructive features tie this case to the Lewis brothers of Trumbull County, who were making cases in the Connecticut Western Reserve that were being made in Connecticut (from which the brothers had immigrated). See Richmond, Equal in Goodness: Ohio Decorative Arts, 1788-1860 for another Lewis clock.
