CIVIL WAR DOCUMENTS FOR AN ILLINOIS SOLDIER - Includes Discharge and pension documents for Joseph D. Zwisler (1837-1882), who served in Co. B, 8th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. Also includes photocopies of his enlistment form and muster rolls; as well as a letter to his sister in Alabama, dated February 23, 1865, in which he proclaims that he has ”made up [his] mind to go [to war] and represent the Zwisler family.” The letter includes interesting camp life content. After his service, Swisler moved to Akron, Ohio. Provenance: an Ohio collection.
