PENNSYLVANIA DECORATED BLANKET CHEST - Berks County, early 19th century, pine. Dovetailed case, with its original paint decoration, including flowers, trees, rabbits (under the name), hearts (on the corners), and central medallion with name ”ELIZABETH MOHR.” 26” high, 49.75” wide, 22.5” deep. Elizabeth Mohr was born in 1796 in Berks County, Pennsylvania to Johann and Elizabeth Mohr. She married Friderich (Frederick) Schweitzer in 1816. They had at least nine children, and Elizabeth died in 1875. Another chest by the same hand is illustrated in Fabian, The Pennsylvania Decorated Chest, item 178 (made for Mary Becht).
