ZOAR, OHIO HAT BLOCK - Initialed ”JA” for Jacob Ackerman, 1870-1900, oak. Used to make the traditional straw hats regularly worn by Zoarites. 5” high, 7” diameter. Jacob J. Ackerman (1839-1901) worked in the Zoar cabinetshop from the 1860s until nearly the end of his life. Provenance: the collection of Sandy Worley, Zoar, Ohio; purchased from Hilda Morehart, Zoar, Ohio.
