DIMINUTIVE BEE BOX - Illinois, c. 1861, mahogany and poplar. Double-hinged box with pyramidal insert, and with its original finish including painted ”E.L. JINNETT'S PATENT 1861.” 7.25” high, 4.75” wide, 4.5” deep. Elsberry L. Jinnett of Vermillion County, IL patented a beehive (US31719). This is not of that design, but is similar, including having the insert, which is designed to trap invading moths. Provenance: an Ohio collection.
