DECORATED SETTLE BENCH - Upper Midwest, possibly Wisconsin, late 19th century, pine. Paneled back, lift-lid storage compartment in the seat, and on blocked feet. Retains vibrant, old paint decoration, including stylized faux rosewood and birdseye maple. 38” high, 74” long. The blocked feet are often seen on furniture made by European immigrant craftsmen throughout the Midwest, and has its origins in the Biedermeier style common in Europe in the 1820s-1850s.
