Bidspirit auction | PORTRAIT OF A SHIP CAPTAIN

PORTRAIT OF A SHIP CAPTAIN - Probably New England, 2nd quarter-19th century, oil on canvas. Seated portrait of a gentleman in a black suit, holding a spyglass, and in front of a window, through which is visible his schooner in full sail. In a period frame. 35.5” high, 28.5” wide (sight); 40” high, 33” wide (overall). Provenance: an Ohio collection. NOTE: We are happy to answer questions and take additional photos of lots prior to the auction (the sooner submitted the better). Any updates or new photographs will be posted to the catalog on our website. Please check there prior to placing bids to ensure that you have the most up-to-date information. SHIPPING: We offer in-house shipping on all lots in this auction. Please see the terms for more information and contact us for a packing/shipping estimate. Condition: Scattered minor repairs. UPDATE: the blue ”blog” is the sky--there is a hole in the clouds showing a bright blue sky. A cleaning will make this look more like white clouds and blue sky rather than gray clouds and a blob.
