OHIO HOTEL SIGN - Marietta, Ohio, mid-20th century, metal. Raised black letters ”HOTEL LAFAYETTE” against a white background. 4.5” high, 56” wide. Built in 1918 on the site of the Bellevue Hotel, which burned in 1916, the Lafayette is named after the Marquis de Lafayette, the young French noble who helped bring French aid to the American cause during the Revolution, and who visited Marietta in 1825 on his travels through America. Provenance: a southeast Ohio collection. NOTE: We are happy to answer questions and take additional photos of lots prior to the auction (the sooner submitted the better).
