OHIO BLOWN GLASS APOTHECARY CANISTER - Probably made in western Pennsylvania, c. 1840. Pontiled canister wtih original tin lid, and with an early 20th century label for Charles Fink, Fredericktown, Ohio. 8” high. Charles Frederick Fink, (1877-1973) was born in Pennsylvania, but came west to Ohio, settling in Fredericktown, where he is regularly listed as a druggist/drugstore owner. The label indicates that the jar held ”Maranta, ” likely referring to Arrowroot (Maranta arundinacea), which was a common plant used to alleviate digestive ailments. Provenance: an Ohio collection.
