Bidspirit auction | FOLKSY VIEW OF A LOGGING

FOLKSY VIEW OF A LOGGING CAMP - Possibly southern Indiana, late 19th century, colored pencil on paper. View of a logging camp, with cabins, sleds, and stumps. Framed, 14” high, 23” wide (overall). The small size, medium, and ”acid” greens used are reminiscent of the work of Gilman Hennon, who was born in Muskingum County, Ohio in 1857, but moved to Green County, Indiana about 1890. There, he produced dozens of ”house portraits, ” similar to those of Ferdinand Brader, but much smaller. For examples of his work, see Rachel Davis Fine Arts (Cleveland), Bearley collection, October 2025. Provenance: an Ohio collection.
