TWO-PIECE GATE CITY STONEWARE COOLER WITH BIRD - Ft. Edward, New York, c. 1886. Slightly ovoid base with spout/bunghole, and brushed foliate decoration, marked ”GATE CITY WATER COOLER. Patented May 25, 1886.” On top fits a cylindrical lidded filter marked ”GATE CITY STONE FILTER” with patent dates (1882-1886), integral plaster-like filter, and brushed bird decoration. 22.25” high (overall).
