Bildhauer und Elfenbeinschnitzer, Schüler von Phillipp Willmann, Studienreisen nach Mailand, Rom und Paris, tätig in Berlin, dort Gründung der eigenen Firma Preiss & Kassler, deren Kollektion anfangs Kleinplastiken aus Elfenbein, unter anderem Kinderstatuetten und Skulpturen, umfasste, ab 1910 entstanden die ersten Kombinationsplastiken aus Bronze mit Elfenbein. Artist information: Johann Philipp Ferdinand Preiss (1882 Erbach - 1943 Berlin), important German sculptor and ivory carver, pupil of Phillipp Willmann, study trips to Milan, Rome and Paris, active in Berlin, where he founded his own company Preiss & Kassler, whose collection initially comprised small ivory sculptures, including children's statuettes and sculptures, and from 1910 the first combination sculptures made of bronze and ivory.
