Sèvres-style portrait plate Probably made by Adolf Stulz, Strasbourg, c. 1900, with a hand-painted Sèvres mark featuring the letters S and M and the inscription ‘Me Dubarry’, flat, slightly concave dessert plate with a curved rim, polychrome overglaze decoration, fine gold etching and gold rim; in the centre, a bust portrait of Marie-Jeanne Bécu, Comtesse du Barry (1743-1793), mistress of the French King Louis XIV, framed by a floral gold cartouche, a garland of flowers and a blue ribbon; the flag has a ‘bleu celeste’ background, with bouquets of flowers in the four reserved areas, floral gold cartouches and a circumscribing gold garland, as well as a gold rim; the decoration is slightly worn, otherwise in good condition for its age, D 22.5 cm.
