Awe-Inspiring! Piece of Straw and the Segulah of the Book by Rabbi Elimelech ofg Lizhensk in an Impressive Leather Binding! - ”Since on the bed of the Tzaddik the Shechinah resides” (Likutei Ein Yaakov - Berachot 60b). Sefer Noam Elimelech in the format of the first edition; the Segulah of owning it is famed. Combined with a piece of straw, which according to the Admor Rabbi Leibish of Pshevorsk, one of the grandsons of Rabbi Elimelech, is also a lofty Segulah. The Shmerler family describe the passing down of the straw in their family (freely translated): ”I am writing down exactly what our father Shlita [the Gaon Rabbi A.S. Shmerler the Rosh Yeshiva of Sanz] told me on Chol Hamo'ed Sukkot 2012: my father inherited a piece of straw from the bed of our grandfather Rabbi Elimelech. And so my father told me: after the passing of the Rav of Lizhensk, his daughter, our grandmother Mrs. Mirish, was left without support, a widow with five orphans. Rabbi Mendele of Riminov took her under his wing and she moved to Riminov. To provide for her young children, she took the straw mattress of her father, Rabbi Elimelech, and sold pieces of its straw to Chassidim who wanted to own a part of the bed of a Tzaddik. She left some of the straw to be passed down in her family. Yitzchak Pesach Shmerler, the great-grandson of Rabbi Elimelech”. Owning the book is also a famed Segulah, and especially in the format of the first edition, with the asterisk (*) punctuation mark, which indicates that Rabbi Elimelech was in Aliyat Neshamah, with the important foreword by his son, Rabbi Elazar: 'למען כבוד שמך הגדול תעשה ותקיים נא כל הברכות אשר תמיד על פה כבוד אבי מו' הורגלו להיות מברך את ישראל ולמסור נפשו עליהם בכל עת ולבטל מהם גזירות רעות בתפילתו הנאמנה במסירות נפש'. Rabbi Zvi Meir, in the name of his father the author of the Tiferet Shlomo of Radomsk, stated that this foreword is favored by him almost like the entire book of the Noam Elimelech and regretted the foreword being omitted from following editions. Rabbi Sholom of Ratzfert, the son of Rabbi Chaim of Sanz, wrote in his approbation for the Noam Elimelech (Munkatch 1940 ediiton) that the book brings blessing and protection into one's home: '...להביא ברכה לתוך ביתם, גם כי הוא לשמירה מעולה בתוך הבית'. The Admor the Rayatz wrote that it is a Segulah for success: 'בודאי הוא דבר נעלה במאוד ובטח ירבו הקונים בעה”י להיות להם למשמרת הצלחה' (Igrot Kodesh, section V). This, as stated, is Sefer Noam Elimelech, a pocket edition in the format of the first edition, in an elegant leather binding with a small 'window' with the piece of straw, in an elegant matching case.
