Antique silver chatelaine comprising of five hanging chains with pendants.  By Arthur Johnson Smith.  Birmingham, England, 1920.    Made of silver 925. Was likely placed as a kind of belt buckle, with accessories for a lady.  Fastened to a woman’s belt, the significance of wearing a chatelaine shifted over time, from a symbol of wealth to the wearer’s role as manager of the household.   Included is a photograph just for illustration (it is not the item for sale).
