(144) NICOLAS BOUQUET, VEST POCKET WATCH, late 17th century. - Watch needs to be serviced. D: 56.1, H: 35.5 mm (with glass), 188g Nicolas Bouquet came from Lyon. Son of Bertrand Boucquet and Madeleine Fauget, he married Marianne Tondart. In 1682, he opened his business in the back of the Fayard house on Rue de Flandre. He was a Protestant and refused to renounce his faith. After the Edict of Nantes was revoked, he left Lyon. His property was seized and sold in 1686. He initially went to Geneva and finally settled in London, where he continued his craft as a watchmaker. The watch department of the British Museum preserves two high-quality watches made by him, which are, however, in the typical English style of the late 17th century.
