Copy of Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin and the Admor of Tarnopol: Sefer Toldot Noach. First Edition Printed in the Author's Lifetime. Warsaw, 1830.

Toldot Noach, poetic work regarding mussar with commentary by Rabbi Noach ben Shimon of Lissa and Lubrenz. First edition, printed during the author's lifetime – Warsaw, 1830. Prestigious approbations, including one from Rabbi Akiva Eiger. 88 leaves, [1]. Old binding, slightly detached, small tears on the spine, various stains, overall fine condition.


Stamps and notations testify that this copy was owned by prestigious rabbis. Stamp next to the title page: מאיר שפירא האב"ד ור"מ פיעטרקוב and יוסף אייכנשטיין ב'הרב הקדוש ר' סענדר ליפא ז"ל מזידיטשוב פה טרנאפאל". Another stamp from the library of the Chachmei Lublin Yeshiva at 57 Lubartowska Street. Stamp of מנחם מאניש גאלד מגיד מישרים דק"ק טארנאפאל. Notation on the flyleaf: שייך להרב הצדיק ר' יוסף אייכנשטיין מזידיטשוב שליט"א and notation on title page: ניתן לי במתנה מאת הרב הה"צ הר' יוסף א"ש והכנסתי שמי לזכרון מאניש גאלד...]?[". The back cover bears an interesting notation : Under the title משלי העם, there is a list of sayings such as, (in Hebrew) "Money is a good servant but an evil master" and other such pearls of wisdom.


Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin (1887-1934) was the son of Rabbi Yaakov Shimshon of Shatz. He promoted the idea of Daf Yomi, was a rabbi in a number of cities, including Lublin in 1930, where he established the majestic Yeshiva Chachmei Lublin. He was the nasi of the Agudat Yisrael in Poland and its representative in the Polish Sejm.


Admor Yosef Eichenstein of Tarnopol (Zidichov) was the son of Rabbi Alexander Sender Lipa of Zidichov and the son-in-law of Rabbi Nachum of Borenstein (Stretin). He served as Admor in Tarnopol from 1927 and passed away in 1943. His son and successor was Rabbi Alexander Lipa of Strisov.
