Handwritten dedication from Rabbi Eliezer Fishkus of Golnata, to the son-in-law of the Ktav Sofer: HaYad HaChazaka, Breslau 1820, with important approbations.
Sefer Yad HaChazaka, a deep work by Rabbi Yehuda Leib Kalisher. First edition. [3], 77, [1] leaves. Approbations from Rabbi Yaakov Lisa (the Netivot Mishpat and Chavat Da’at), and Rabbi Akiva Eiger of Pozna and others. At the beginning are subscriber lists with many Jews from across Ashkenaz.

Detached title page, stains and creases, binding partially detached. Red page cutting, overall condition of the content is good.

The (detached) blank first page has an important dedication: “to my friend, the son-in-law of the important gaon Rabbi Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer of Pressburg, Rabbi Yaakov Hirsch Segel.” The dedication is signed “Rabbi Aharon Eliezer Fishkus.” The title page has a stamp and signature: “Moshe Sofer ben Rashbas.| Additional signature: “Ben Zion Weisel, Rabbi and Av Beit Din of Torda.”

The dedication’s author is Rabbi Aharon Eliezer Fishkus (c.1820-1884), son of Rabbi Binyamin Bonem. He served as Av Beit Din of Golnata, authored Ma’aseh Avot on Mascehet Avot, and Seder Mishnayot.

The recipient is Rabbi Avraham Yaakov HaLevi Hirsch Segel of Pressburg, who married Hindel daughter of the Ktav Sofer.

As one can see by looking at the signatures on the title page, this copy passed in the end also to Rabbi Yaakov HaLevi Hirsch Segel’s brother-in-law, Rabbi Moshe Sofer the son of the Ktav Sofer and thus grandson of the Chatam Sofer. He lived 1841-1927), was an expert mohel who circumcised the converts of the Bizidaupilo village, a village in Transylvania that entirely converted.
