Letter from the Agudas Yisrael in Zurich, signed by Rabbi Tuvya Levinstein, Rabbi of Zurich, and Rabbi Menachem Mannes HaKohen. - “Therefore let us hope that also our Haredi brothers in Hungary who haven’t taken great part until now in our movement, will remain too now and come to participate with us.” Letter sent to the City Council of the Ashkenazi community upon the end of the First World War, from the Agudas Yisrael in Zurich. Background: Agudas Yisrael was founded in 1912, two years before the outbreak of World War I. With the outbreak of the war and while Agudas Yisrael was taking its first steps, all branches were abolished and only the branch in Zurich was sheltered in the shadow of Swiss neutrality. Upon the end of the war, the Swiss branch held a conference of all members of the movement in order to rehabilitate its ruins and resume activity for the benefit of the ultra-Orthodox.
