Rare, unknown bibliographically and never appeared at auction: Kinot for Tisha B’Av with Eicha (Lamentations): printed by the Shapira brothers, Zhitomir 1864.
Seder Kinot for Tisha B’Av, “the minhag of Poland, Lithuania, and Russia”, with Yiddish translation. Printed by the partners and grandsons of the Slavita Rav, Rabbi Chanina Lipa and Yehoshua Heschel Shapira in Zhitomir. 99 leaves. This edition does not appear in bibliographic databases, nor has appeared at auction before.

The title page has an exciting inscription in Yiddish, in which the printers explain why they printed a Yiddish translation—in order to cause people to cry and to lament the destruction of the Temple and the holy sites and so they would all understand: “and truly ask from Hashem to finally have mercy on us and rebuild the Holy Temple soon”.

Wear, including tearstains. The 2 last leaves have a hole, seemingly from a candle which burned the leaves a bit with damage to text. Worn binding, repaired title page, lone bits of tape. Leaf 8 has a repair with some missing Yiddish. Blue, high-quality paper, most of the text is in good condition—rare for this kind of book.
