Chabad Auction – presenting the rare Tanya and Siddur Shanghai and a collection of Siddurim, Ari version – an auction for collectors of books and pedigreed copies as well.

All items of this auction that were given directly by the Rebbe were thoroughly checked by the auction house to determine who received them from the Rebbe. For most of them, we received additional evidence such as a photograph taken when the item was received and varied authenticity tests. Due to the complexity, items whose source is Rabbi Shaul Shimon Deutsch were specifically noted.

The recipients' names were obscured in most of the items, at the request of their owners, and will be revealed to the buyers. Be advised, further questions about the items should be directed to the auction house until 24 hours before the auction. Entering a bid is binding with all that that entails. Thank you.

Extremely Rare in an Original Binding: Tanya Shanghai, 1943. Copy of the Admor of Alexander USA

Likutei Amarim Tanya by the Admor Hazaken Ba'al Hatanya. Published for Chag Hage'ulah the 19th of Kislev until the printing of Divrei Elokim Chaim at the Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva of Lubavitch -  Shanghai, 1943.

This Tanya was printed in the midst of the terrible Holocaust for the refugees who had escaped to Shanghai and who included, famously,   many Chabad Chassidim.

Facsimile edition of the Vilna editions. Detached leaves. Original binding, slightly worn and detached. Stains. Good overall condition.

On the flyleaf, the handwritten signature of the Admor of Alexander USA, who escaped during the Holocaust to Shanghai and studied this book.

The Admor of Alexander USA Rabbi Yechiel Menachem Singer (1919-1989) the eldest son of Rabbi Yaakov Sheraga Feibel Av Beit Din of Ostrov.

During the Holocaust, Rabbi Yechiel Mencham was sent to Vilna by his father, to which he too tried unsuccessfully to escape. From Vilna, the Admor, like many other Lithuanian yeshiva students, escaped to Shanghai,   where he continued to study Torah. His parents and siblings remained in Europe and perished. With the end of the terrible war, the Admor immigrated to the USA. Rabbeinu was a gem trader and only after the pleas of the Alexander Chassidim in the USA did he agree to become their Admor.

Rabbeinu republished the books of the holy dynasty, Yismach Yisrael and Tiferet Shmuel, thus commemorating his glorious family. He was succeeded by his sons the Admor of Alexander USA Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Meir Shalita and the Admor of Vorka Alexander Rabbi Avraham Baruch Shalita - the Rosh Yeshiva of Tiferet Shmuel in Borough Park, USA.
