First edition of the fourth section of Shut Mahari Ben lev - Amsterdam 1726 edition. On leaf 21b a gloss of 7 lines handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger.
On verso of the title page, a touching notation by his son Rabbi Avraham Eiger: "שייך לה"ה כבוד הוד עטרת תפארת ראשי אאמ"ו [אדוני אבי מורי ורבי] הרב הגאון הגדול המובהק הבקי מו"ה עקיבא איגר נ"י מא"ש [מאייזנשטאט] לע"ע [לעת עתה] אבדק"ק פרידלאנד יע"א [יבנה ערי אלוקים] ולרב ענה בנו הקטן אברהם".
The great Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger Av Beit Din of Posna (1762-1938) was born in Eisenstadt and already as a child was recognized as an Iluy. Even before his bar Mitzvah, he joined the yeshiva of his uncle Rabbi Binyamin Wolf Eiger and when he was fifteen, began delivering lessons there. Was Rav of Friedland (which is mentioned in the notation on this book) and then of Posna. The Gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin, Av Beit Din of Moscow wrote: "ואנכי הנני מעיד בעדות נאמנה, שהגאון ר' עקיבא איגר ז"ל, מרום וקדוש היה בעיני מר אבי הגאון ז"ל עד למאוד, ובכל עת שהזכירוֹ היה מירתע כולא גופיה מגודל קדושת תורתו וצדקתו, וספר תשובותיו לא פסק מעל שלחנו, ומרגלא היה בפומיה שכל המעיין בספר תשובות רע"א ז"ל בעין חודרת, לא רק גדולות ונפלאות ימצא שמה מעמק עיונו וחריצת שכלו הבהיר, כי אם גם יראת ה' טהורה וענוה יתרה ימצא בכל שורה ושורה, ואין לך ספר מוסר גדול ממנו, כה היו דבריו תמיד, ותיבה ממש אחת מלשון רע"א ז"ל היה מכריע בעינין כמה וכמה דפים מפלפולי ספרים אחרים, ודעת רע"א ז"ל בהוראה להלכה אם להקל או להחמיר היה מכריע אצלו דעות כמה פוסקים, קצרו של דבר כי למלאך ה' צבאות היה נחשב בעיניו."
The gaon Rabbi Avraham Eiger Av Beit Din of Rogozin (1879-1954) the son of Rabbi Akiva Eiger. Was a disciple of his Gaon father and of the author of Toldot Noach. Published his father's writings.
