Extremely Rare! The Polemic of the Rabbis of London and the Peacemaking by Chacham Zvi: Ma'asseh Rav - Single Edition. Some tears along the edges of several leaves. Cut headings in some leaves. Good overall condition.  A rare uncommon book.  Chacham Zvi and the Rabbis of London This book was published after a dispute broke out in the London community in 1706 over the question of a conditional Gett (Gett al Tnai) of a Cohen who travelled to India on business, which was arranged by the Rav of the London community, Rabbi Uri Feivish Hamburger. The Rav imposed a ban on a member of the community who challenged the Gett. Rabbi Uri Feivish published his book Urim Vetumim (London, 1707) to justify his the step he had taken; Rabbi Yochanan of Holeshov authored and published this work, Ma'asseh Rav, in response to the Urim Vetumim. The book introduces the responses of Rabbeinu the Chacham Zvi and additonal rabbis ”to prove and clarify that Rabbeinu Tam's Gzeira does not apply” to the man since he stated that he never even thought of challenging the Gett. An ancient and fascinating dispute from the early days of the London community, which called Rabbeinu the Chacham Zvi to make peace between the rabbis of the town.
