Two Notations of ”Mugeh”. Shemirat HaLashon First Edition and Additional First and Important Editions of Books by the Chafetz Chaim which he Published in His Lifetime - Collection of books by the Chafetz Chaim - first editions that were published in the lifetime of the author, Rabbeinu Yisrael Meir Hacohen of Radin.  1. Sefer Shemirat HaLashon , ”... a completion to Sefer Chafetz Chaim” as written by Rabbi Yisrael Meir Hacohen on the title page of this book.  In this edition, which is the first of this Sefer Yesod, the author did not sign his name and he is referred to only in the acronym in Cyrillic letters on the margins of the title page: I.M. Kagan. In his humility, he also omitted his name from the approbations - first edition , Yehuda Leib Metz Press, Vilna 1876. 38 leaves.  Bound with Sefer Chafetz Chaim - second edition, still without Rabbi Yisrael Meir HaCohen's name, but only in Cyrillic letters on the title page - Warsaw | 1891 [On the title page: מ'י' ה'א'י'ש' ה'ח'פ'ץ' ח'י'י'ם' א'ו'ה'ב' ימים לרא'ו'ת טו'ב  whose Gematria is 1884. This is incorrect (apparently for fear of the censor). A stereotype of the 1877 edition]/. 78 leaves. Detached title page and flyleaf. Notation on the flyleaf indicating the book had belonged to Rabbi Yehoshua Yitzchak Isaac of Shavil.  Old binding with taping to spine and corners. Tears along the edges of the leaves. Stains. Good overall condition.   2. Sefer Nidchei Yisrael, a book on the foundations of religion for people living in countries far from Jewish life, by the Gaon Maran Rabbi Yisrael Meir Hacohen of Radin, the Chafetz Chaim. In this edition, Hebrew-Teitch (Yiddish) was added throughout the entire work for the benefit of women and common people. Printed in Warsaw, 1897. At its end, Kuntres Tiferet Adam on the prohibition of destroying one's beard and sidelocks by the author. 147, 16 leaves. Approx. 23 cm. Original binding with the famed jug decoration. Taping to the spine of the binding. No title page. Tears along the edges of the leaves not affecting the text. Stains and varied blemishes. Good overall condition.  On the flyleaf there are two pencil notations of ”Mugeh” (proofread), as was the way of Rabbeinu to indicate he had proofread the book for fear of Gezel.  Throughout the book, several stamps of the Chafetz Chaim Yeshiva of Baltimore.
