Copy of the Gaon Rabbi Elazar Löw: Shut Parshat Mordechai by Rabbi Mordechai Bennett. First edition , Maramures-Sighet 1888. [1], 133, [2] leaves. After the book ends there is a leaf with a copying of an anonymous letter that was sent to the Maharam Bennett, which is ”kind of a Pitka min Shmaya” in the words of the editor, and an index. On the following leaf, a list of subscribers including many contemporary rabbis headed by the owner of this copy, the Gaon Rabbi Elazar Löw. Old binding with blemishes to its spine and edges. Stains. Very good overall condition. On the title page, an ownership signature of Rabbi Elazar Löw: ”חנני ד' אלעזר לעוו בהגאון מוהר”ר ירמי' זללה”ה” Rabbi Elazar Löw (1839-1918) the author of Pekudat Elazar, the son of Rabbi Yirmiyahu Löw Av Beit Din of Uhjely the author of the Divrei Yirmiyahu. Was one of the leading orthodox rabbis of Northern Hungary. Served as Rav of Uhjely since 1877 and as Rav of Ungvar since 1888. In both places, Chassidic circels fought him despite his zeal for Devar Hashem.
