Copy of the Gaon Rabbi Yisrael Yonah Segal Landau of Kempno and His Son Rabbi Yosef Shmuel: the Mussar Books Se'ah Solet, Marpeh Lanefesh and Orach Chaim - Amsterdam, 1757 - Sefer Se'ah Solet, Marpeh Lanefesh and Orach Chaim, Mussar books by Rabbi Raphael ben Gabriel Norzi. ”Printed for the second time”. Adorned with approbations by the contemporary rabbis of Amsterdam. The Press of Rabbi Yehuda Leib Sussman, Amsterdam, 1757. A special title page for each book in addition to the first preceding title page. Stains. Some moth perforations and minor blemishes. New binding. Good overall condition.  Notations, signatures and glosses including the following:  - Notation handwritten by Rabbi Yisrael Yonah Segal Landau, Av Beit Din of Kempno, author of Ma'on Haberachot: ”לזיכרון שמגיע לי מר' זאב שבעה זהו' [זהובים]....?”  - Notation handwritten by his son and successor Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Segal Landau: הספר הלז קיבל אאמ”ו [אדוני אבי מורי ורבי] הגאון אבד”ק קעמפנא על חוב שלו מר”ח בר”א זאלשין ונתן לי במתנה, שמואל הק' יוסף סגלנדא”. And his stamp on leaf 1 of Se'ah Solet.  -Additional notation, apparently of the book's owner, who gave it to Rabbi Yisrael Yonah: ”שייך להאלוף... חיים בר”א מזאלשין, הוקנה מאת העזבון של מ”צ [מורה צדק] דוויערשוב זצ”ל, ז”ך תשרי תקע”ה”. - ”מ”ץ [מורה צדק] מזערקאוו”. - ”נאם הבחור יצחק? אברהם מלונטשיץ”   - Corrections of 2 words inside the book. Apparently handwritten by Rabbi Yisrael Yonah; since they are short, this cannot be clearly determined.  Rabbi Yisrael Yonah Segal Landau (d. 1824) Av Beit Din of Kempno, the son of the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Segal Landau, author of Sefer Ein Habdolach and Sefer Ma'on Haberachot. Was the cousin of the Gaon author of the Noda BiYehuda. Was a Gaon and wonderful Darshan who corresponded with leading contemporary rabbis, especially the Gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger, who described him as ”הרב המאור הגדול הגאון המפורסם נר ישראל” and asked him for amulets for those who need them. In his old age, he became blind and therefore. his son, Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Segal Landau, took care of the publishing of his father's book Ma'on Haberachot.  His son Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Segal Landau (1800-1837), he too was famed like his father and corresponded with contemporary Geonim. Author of Sefer Goren Atad and Sefer Kur Habechinah. Despite being only in his twenties when his father passed away, he succeeded him as Av Beit Din of Kempno, mainly due to Rabbi Akiva Eiger's support for the appointment. Passed away young, when he was only 37 years old.
