The author, Rabbi Aryeh Leib of Lanžhot (1757/8-1824/6) was the son of Rabbi Baruch, a leading disciple of the Chozeh of Lublin and the Maggid of Kozhnitz. He began to serve as Rav of Lanžhot in 1777, when he was only 20 years old. From 1819 he succeeded Rabbi Chaim of Chernowitz (the Be’er Mayim Hayim) as Rav of Kishinev, where he served until he passed away. Author of Chomat Ariel, Divrei Ester, Gevurot Aryeh, and Arba’a Charashim. The Ohev Yisrael of Apta would visit him every year in Kishinev and would send others there for his advice.
