Historical Letter with the Full Lengthy Signature of the Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Sender Kahana Shapira - about the Prohibition on Learning in Non-Religious Schools - Jerusalem, 1922 - ”המרעילים חניכיהם במינות ואפיקורסות” (which poison their students with heresy), unique and historical letter, most important! Signed by the famed Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Sender Kahana Shapira Av Beit Din of Kórnik - about the rabbis of Jerusalem's prohibition on learning in non-religious schools - Jerusalem, 1922.  It was a year only after Rabbeinu immigrated to Jerusalem, in 1921. Rabbeinu became aware of the state of the schools of Jerusalem and was touched by it. Therefore, in addition to the ban of the other rabbis of the town, Rabbeinu published this special letter, in which he warns with sharp and florid words against sending children to non-religious schools: ”כאשר זכני ד' לבא לעיה”ק ת”ו עיר ד' מצאתי בה חכמים גדולי תורה ואנשי מעשה, עיר מלאה חכמים וסופרים... אך מה גדלה תמיהתי איך ירדה לימוד תשב”ר בעיה”ק, ורבים מאתנו נכשלים לדאבוננו ונורים היתר לעצמם במסירת בניהם ובנותיהם לבתי ספר שונים המרעילים חניכהם במינות ואפיקורסות, ... אמרתי אהיה גם אני נטפל לעושי מצווה ולהשתתף בהמחאה ובהאזהרה להורי הילדים והילדות.... וכל הרשעה כולה כעשן תכלה....”. The letter signed the letter with his full, lengthy signature: ”נאם שלמה זלמן סענדר באאמו”ר הרה”ג הצדיק ר”י זצללה”ה כהנא שפירא מלפנים אב”ד קרוניק פלך הוראדנא”. Rare and unique historical letter written by the initiative of a Rav of Jerusalem rather than the members of the Badatz.  23X29 cm.  Fold lines. Good condition.  The Tzaddik Gaon and wonder-worker Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Sender Kahana Shapira (1851-1923) one of the leading sages and Tzaddikim of Lithuania and one of those who laid the foundations of yeshiva-learning. Was a disciple and friend of the Beit Halevi, under whom he studied with his cousin, Rabbi Chaim Halevi and the Gaon the Rogatchover. Was famed as a wonder-worker whose blessings wee fulfilled. Served as Av Beit Din of Kórnik and Maltsh, where he establsihed the Anaf Etz Chaim Yeshiva. One of his famed disciples was Rabbi Yaakov Kaminetzki. Rabbeinu had two sons who were Gedolei Hador: the author of the Devar Avraham of Kovno and Rabbi Yaakov Kahana-Shapira, the author of the Neot Yaakov. His writings were published many years after he had passed away by the Jerusalem Institute and were titled Chidushei Hagrazes.
