Polemic! Letter with the Handwritten Signature of Maran Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook about the Explosive Issue of Women's Participation in the Elections - Jerusalem, 1920 - לדון בדבר היחש... לאספת הנבחרים ולחוקי הבחירות שלה  (to discuss the attitude  to the Assembly of Representatives and its election rules) - letter on an important controversial subject - handwritten and signed by Maran Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook - addressed to Rav Maimon - Jerusalem, Nissan 1920.  Background : Immediately upon the beginning of the British Mandate in Eretz Yisrael in 1919, the British instructed the Jews to hold elections for representatives to represent them in all matters related to the dealings with the large Jewish public in the Holy Land. This directive caused a tremendous wave across the Holy Land and reshaped the relationships between the political parties in general and between the Chareidi, Mizrachi, and non-religious population in particular. One of the main issues that sparked much controversy was the question of women's participation in the elections for the first time. It was clear to everyone that the abstention of religious women from voting would significantly strengthen the power of the non-religious parties. The religious and Mizrachi circles, reluctantly, supported allowing women to vote, while Agudat Yisrael and the Chareidi community fought against it vehemently. This is a historical letter which was sent by Maran Harav Kook to the president of the Mizrachi, about a special meeting to discuss the pressing problem: ”אחרי אשר אסיפה כללית של כל רבני א”י מכרחת להיות בלי שום אחור ודחוי כלל, לדון בדבר היחש של כלל הציבור שבא”י לאספת הנבחרים ולחקי הבחירות שלה, הנני מתכבד לבקש את כת”ר לבוא לאסיפא...” . Maran ends his letter with sentences that are typical of his doctrine: ”וצור ישראל וגואלו יופיע על עצתנו, ויכונן את מעשה ידינו לטובה ולברכה בצפית ישועה מהר הקודש מירושלים...”. Good condition.  Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Hacohen Kook (1865-1935) the Cיief Rabbi of Eretz Yisrael, a Gaon and Mekubal, the founder of the Merkaz Harav Yeshiva and one of the forefathers of religious Zionism. The author of Sifrei Yesod and Rav of many Gedolei Yisrael.
