Touching Letter that was Written during the Holocaust Handwritten and Signed by the Admor Rabbi Ben Zion Yehuda Leib Twersky of Hornosteipel - Chicago, 1942? - ”גם אנכי עוד לא קבלתי רשיון תמידית לישב באמריקא” (I too have not received a permanent visa to live in America) - letter handwritten and signed by the Admor Rabbi Ben Zion Yehuda Leib Twersky of Hornosteipel - addressed to his sons and their families - with details about the Rebbetzin who remained in Europe and his attempts to enter the USA - Chicago, 1942. Rabbeinu wrote the letter in the midst of the Holocaust. In it, Rabbeinu asks his sons to write more often in such troubled times: ”מאד יש לי יסורים מהעדר מכתבים אלי זה זמן רב: ובפרט בעת כזאת....” . Them he describes his concern for his wife the Rebbetzin who remained in Europe: ”מרעיתי תחי' אקבל מכתבים ברוב יסורים שסובלת שמה...” (shortly after, the Rebbetzin managed to escape from Antwerp and joined Rabbeinu in Canada).  Rabbeinu also tells his sons about his ordeals in Canada and the USA and his attempts to obtain a permanent visa to the USA. At the end of the letter, Rabbeinu blesses his sons with a blessing typical of the difficult times and situation: ”הנני אביהם.. ותפילתי בעדם שהשי”ת ישמרם מכל צער ופגע ח”ו...”. Good condition.  The Admor Rabbi Ben Zion Yehuda Leib Twersky (1868-1951) the son of Rabbi Mordechai Dov of Hornosteipel, and son-in-law of Rabbi Yitzchak Yoel of Kontikoziva [grandson of the Teshu'ot Chen]. Succeeded his father as Rav of Hornosteipel, Ukraine, after his father's passing in 1903. In 1939 he travelled to Antwerp and could not return because of the war. He escaped to the United States and settled in Chicago, until his passing in 1951.
