Rare Historical Letter with the Handwritten Signature of Rabbi Dudel Lelover about the Appointment of Rabbeinu the Avnei Nezer on behalf of the Chassidim in their Dispute with the Prushim of Kollel Ashkenazim - Jerusalem, 1901 - Rare and special historical letter that has not been published with fascinating content about the history of the Kollelim of Jerusalem. The letter, which was written on Menachem Av 24,1901, (see also, Jerusalem Judaica Catalog Winter 2008, lot 672) refers to a monetary dispute between the Prushim (Misnagdim) and the Kollelot Chassidim.  The letter is addressed to the rabbis of the Lithuanian Kollelim and begins with reference to criticism apparently appearing in their letter: ”מכתבכם המועתק ע”י בד”צ דכוללות הפרושים הגיענו נכון, ומבלתי הבט אל דברי חדודין הנאמרים בו, שמנו פנינו רק אל הנקודה, אשר בכחה להביא את השלום, כי אותה אנחנו מבקשים ”. The leaders of Kollel Chassidim suggest arbitration and that they choose a ”Shofet Tzeddek” on their behalf and that Kollel Prushim also choose one and these two shall choose a third one and whatever these three rule shall be accepted by both parties. The leaders of the Chassidic community continue to write their choice of a Shofet on their behalf, Rabbi Avraham the Gaon Av Beit Din of Sochatchov, Poland - the Avnei Nezer.  Appearing at the end of the letter are the signatures of the leaders of the Kollel headed by the Admor of Lelov, the Gaon Rabbi David Zvi Shlomo Biderman ”on behalf of the entire Kollel community here in Jerusalem”.  [1] leaf. Approx. 29X23 cm. Fold lines and minor stains.  The Admor Rabbi David Zvi Shlomo Biderman of Lelov (1844-1918), the son of the Admor Rabbi Eliezer Menachem Mendel Biderman of Lelov. It is said that on his journey to Eretz YiIsrael his father took him to visit the courts of leading contemporary Chassidic rabbis. When they visited the Chatzer of the Rav of Ruzhin he said “those eyes are so pure, they light up this baby, the owner of these eyes will never sin(!)”. He was a leader of the Chassidic community of Jerusalem and was revered by all Jews of Jerusalem at the time and even by the Arabs and the Turkish authorities.
