The work Aggadat Arba Kossot was authored by the author following serious misfortunes that had befallen him including the death of his wife and three sons. The work is a literary masterpiece, the author using rich poetic language, dealing with coping with one's fate. The author leads the reader from the Cup of Poison (Kos Hatarela) to the Cup of Comfort (Kos Hatanchumim) and from there, to the Cup in G-d's Hand (Kos Beyad Hashem) and finally, the Cup of salvation (Kos Yeshu'ot). The work was published for the first time in Berlin, 1790 and then had 13 additional editions throughout the 19th century, indicating its reputation.
