Fascinating Letter by the Gaon Rabbi Gedalya Silverstone Av Beit Din of Washington - Safed, 1936 - Interesting letter that was written during the Great Arab Revolt - handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Gedalya Silverstone - addressed to Rabbi Eliezer Novik - Safed, 1936.  Rabbi Silverstone longed to immigrate to Eretz Yisrael. In 1936, he did so, settling in Safed, Yet the Rebbetzin, who feared to come with him, remained in Washington. Eventually, Rabbi Siloverstone returned to the USA and re-immigrated several years later with the Rebbetzin, living in Jerusalem. In this letter, Rabbeinu tells his friend about the hair-raising events he experiences on his way to Safed: ”הנה כעת בעיר צפת לא נסעתי בעיר ירושלים מפני הפחד הנורא - כי הספינה שלי עמדה בחיפה ומחיפה נסעתי עם הפאצט באנשי חיל דרך טבריה עד צפת וביום זה נסעו יהודים רבים מטבריה לצפת בלא אנשי חיל ונהרג איש אחד וכמה פצעים - ה' ירחם... נקוה כי בקרוב ירחם ה' ויהיה שלום על כל ישראל....”. A fertile author who authored more than thirty religious books. During WWI, made active efforts to save European Jews and open the gates of the USA to immigrants who had escaped Europe.
