Handwritten Signatures in Initials of Rabbi Shmiel Salant Mara DeAra DeYisrael: Sefer Mekor Chaim on Hilchot Pesach by Rabbi Yaakov of Lisa - Warsaw, ca. 1855? - Sefer Mekor Chaim, ”Chidusheim and elucidations on Hilchot Pesach and Hagahot on Turei Zahav and Magen Avraham and Chidushei Halachot of Masechet Kritut (by the author's father), authored by the Gaon Rabbi Yaakov [Lorberbaum] the son of the Gaon Rabbi Moshe [Ashkenazi] Av Beit Din and Ram of Lisa...”. The famed work on Hilchot Pesach by Rabbeinu the Chavat Daat and the Netivot. Without the year and place of printing. Apparently, printed with Sefer Sar HaElef by Rabbeinu Yonasson Eibeschitz. Warsaw - ca. 1855. [1], 53 leaves. Stains and minor blemishes. Original binding with a worn leather spine. Some moth perforations. Good overall condition.  On the title page and last page, stamps of Rabbi Shmuel Salant. On the last page and the back board, Rabbeinu's signature in initials: ”ש”ס”.   The Gaon Rabbi Shmuel of Salant (1816-1909) the revered Rav of Jerusalem for over 70 years, and the leader of all Ashkenazic communities in Eretz Yisrael. Was famed as a Gaon and Iluy, already in his youth, At the age of Bar Mitzvah he received a letter from his Rav, Rabbi Abeli concerning a complicated divorce matter, indicating that his Rav trusted him as an outstanding Torah scholar even then. As a youth, he studied Chavruta with the Gaon Rabbi Yisrael of Salant [founder of the Mussar Movement]. He immigrated to Eretz Yisrael in 1841, to serve as Rav of the Prushim community and founded education and charity institutes in the city, founded a Beit Din and strengthened the Ashkenazic community. Was famed for his shrewdness. It should be noted that signatures handwritten by Rabbeinu are extremely rare.
