These Jews, together with the local Jews, managed to escape from the depths of despair near the end of the Holocaust. However, in 1945, when the documents before us were written, tens of thousands of Jews were still living in the Soviet Union. Before us is a fascinating document sent by the Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Sarna and Rabbi Yitzchak Meir Levin to the Gaon Rabbi Chizkiyahu Yosef Mishkovsky, with intriguing details about the shipment of Matzah and the connections with Jews behind the Iron Curtain.
