Rare and Unique! Sefer Megillat Sefer with a Latin Translation - with an Addition of Letters by the Rambam and More - Basel, 1629 - Institutio epistolaris Hebraica - Sefer Megillat Sefer with a Latin translation - approx. a hundred sample letters - by Johannes Buxtorf (Sr.) - Basel, 1629.  Sefer Megillat Sefer, which was published for the first time in Venice, includes approx. 100 sample letters. The letters are for teaching nice penmanship when writing letters to family members, merchants, friends and more.  The book is well-edited. At its beginning, there are dozens of samples of opening sentences and superlatives such as ”אדברה נא שלום לאיש המהולל במעשיו המפואר בחכמתו אהובי המרומם”. Then there are examples of second sentences introducing the subject matter such as ”מעשה אצבעותיך הנכתב יום ד' הגיעני ואת דעתך הנכונה בו הכרתי וכו'”. Later, there are examples of ending sentences such as ”ובאשר אין עוד חדש אתי ומאפס פנאי, אתן קץ למלי הפעם ואומר שלום מאדון העולם וממני אוהבך נצח פלוני...”. The book also covers the subject of how to address the recipient of the letter. For example: ”לאיש נזר זמננו, מופת דורנו משיב נפשנו חכמתו על עבר פנינו, האלוף והגאון...”. The major part of the book includes approx. a hundred examples of letters to family members, merchants, friends and more.  The book was translated into Latin by Johannes Buxtorf, in Basel  in 1610. Added to this edition are letters by the Rambam and additional rabbis, appearing at its end.  It should be noted that the order of the letters does not match their order in the Venice and Cremona editions.  Fascinating item!
