Sefer Yesod: Sefer Yochasin - Rabbeinu Avraham Zacuto's Monumental Work - First Edition with Hagahot HaRema - Krakow, 1580 - Sefer Yochasin - thehistory of the world and the Jewish people from the creation of the world to the year of 1900- by the wonderous sage Rabbeinu Avraham Zacuto who was exiled from Spain - with Hagahot HaRema and his additions until his generaton (16th century) - the Press of Yitzchak ben Aharon of Prostitz - Krakow, 1580 - first edition with Hagahot HaRema - Stefansky Yesod 536 of the supplements.  Sefer Yochasin - the monumental work by the wonderous sage Rabbeinu Avraham Zacuto who was exiled from Spain. Rabbi Avraham was a famed Talmid Chacham and astrologist as well as an adviser to the kings of Portugal. It is told that he taught Columbus astronomy before he left for India (America). Rabbi Avraham writes about the Kiddush Hashem he did among the non-Jews in the first article of this book, Sefer Yochasin: ”כשיצאו הספרים שעשיתי בתכונה היו אומרים רבי אברהם זכות איש שלאמנקה. ואני יש לי רשות להתפאר בזה כמו שאמרו חז”ל: 'אי זו היא חכמה שנתחשבו בה החכמים לעיני העמים - הוי אומר זה חשבון תקופות ומזלות'. ואני מעיד לשמים שהיו משבחין את ישראל מאד בזה. וכל כוונתי לא הייתה כי אם להבין דברי חז”ל וההלכות שכתבו בזה.” [When the books I had authored on astronomy were published, they would say: ‘Rabbi Abraham Zacuto, a man from Salamanca.’ And I have the right to take pride in this, as our Sages said: ‘What is the wisdom that is admired by the nations? You must say: This is the calculation of the seasons and constellations.’ And I bear witness before Heaven that they greatly praised the people of Israel because of this. My entire intention was only to understand the words of our Sages and the laws they wrote on this matter].  Added to this edition are Hagahot by Rabbeinu Moshe Isserles, the Rema, who was Rav in Krakow, where the book was published: ”עם הגהות שעשה והוסיף הגאון נר ישראל... משה איסרליש ז”ל וסדר הגאונים והגדולים שהיו עד דורינו זה כפי אשר מצאנו שהגיה בכתב ידו בספר יסוד עולם”. The many following ediitons of the book are based on this one, the updated Krakow edition.  Signature on the title page: ”מ”ק יעקב סופר ס”ט” . There are also several erasures by the censor alongside glosses in later script, which re-complete what the censor had erased - not studied.  168 leaves.  New leather binding, elegant and professional. open tears to the title page, professionally restored.
