Fine Copy of the Goral HaGra Bible - Amsterdam, 1701 - the Special Edition that was Used by Gedolei Yisrael for Goral HaGra! - Fine copy in an original binding - of Chamisha Chumshei Torah, Neviim Rishonim, Acharonim and Ketuvim - the Press of Gerardos Borstius and his partners - Amsterdam, 1701.  Special edition of the Bible in which the text of the bible was printed in double columns per page. At the beginning of the book, there are three title pages - a fine illustrated one, reflecting the best of the Amsterdam tradition, with illustrations of Moshe and Aharon and Kodesh Hakodashim, an additional Hebrew title page and another Latin one.  Goral HaGra : This is a lottery attributed to the Gaon of Vilna. The method was passed down only to the greatest Gedolei Yisrael, and only a few individuals know the precise procedure for conducting it. According to Kabbalistic tradition, the lottery was specifically performed using this edition of the Bible - the 1701 Amsterdam edition - which is known for its double columns . The most famous case in which the Goral HaGra was used was by the Jerusalem Tzaddik, Rabbi Aryeh Levin. He used the lottery to identify the bodies of those murdered in the ill-fated convoy known as the Lamed-Heh (the 35). The case reverberated throughout the Jewish world and astounded all who heard about it, due to its remarkable accuracy, in a way that was “Galut Lechol HaAmim” (For more on this story, see Ish Chassid Hayah, p. 113, where a photo is also included of the very Bible used by Rabbi Levin to conduct the lottery - the 1701 Amsterdam edition).
