Important Glosses Handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer which were not Published: Rav Alfas Section IV - Pressburg, 1836 - Hilchot Rav Alfas section IV by Rabbeinu Yitzchak Alfasi - the Rif, with his varied commentators, including Sefer HaMordechai with the Be'ur Mordechai by the Gaon Rabbi Mordechai Benet and imnportant additions including the Bigdei Yesha commentary on the Mordechai by Rabbeinu Yeshaya Halevi Horowitz, author of the Shelah Hakadosh.  Section IV: Yevamot, Ketubot. ”And added... Chidushei Nuimukei Yosef on Masechet Ketubot” Pressburg - 1836. [3], 2-164 leaves. Some tears ansd taping, imncluding a tear to the title page. Stains and other blemishes. Ancient leather binding, worn, with taping to spine. Good overall condition.  On verso of the binding, a hanndwritten notation, apparently by a disciple indicating the book belongs to Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer: ”זה הרב אלפס שייך להרב החוב”ק וי”א [החריף ובקיא וירא אלוקים] באמת, כמהור”ר ר' עזריאל ב”מ יהודא דאקטער הילדסיימער ”. On the flyleaf, an interesting, historically important notation, in pencil: ”שמות הבחורים פה ק”ק אייזענשטאט, תלמידי הרב הגאון הגדול מופת ומגין הדור, פאר ישראל מורנו רב ישראל הילדעסהיימר נ”י, בשנת תרכ”ו לפ”ק...” [names of men here in Eisenstadt, disciples of the Rav the Gaon... Rabbi Yisrael Hildesheimer... 1866..” and then varied family names are noted.  On the title page, stamps of Rabbeinu Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer from the time he lived in Eisenstadt and stamps of his Beit Midrash, which he founded in Berlin, Beit Hamidrash Lerabbanim. Throughout the book, which was obviously studied through and through, 8 important glosses including some longer ones, handwritten by the Gaon Rabbi Azriel Hildesheimer , which to the best of our knowledge have never been published.  The Gaon Rabbi Dr. Azriel Hildesheimer (1820-1899) a German Rav and leader of Orthodox Jewery in Germany. He was the Rav and Rosh Yeshiva of Eisenstadt and then Berlin, founder of the Rabbinical Beis Midrash in Berlin, a leading disciple of the Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Ettlinger (the Aruch LaNer). He received the title “Nasi Eretz Yisrael” for his work on behalf of Russian Jewry and the many yeshivas he established. Among his works: Shut Rabbi Azriel, Chiddushei Rabbi Azriel on the Shas, and more.
