Rare Sefer Yesod! Bibliographically Unknown Title Cover: Seder Tefillat Yisrael with Derech HaChaim Approbated by Rabbi Akiva Eiger - Altona 1831 The First Siddur with HaGra's Commentary on Pirkei Avot - One of the most important prayer books ever printed, considered one of the most accurate in its prayer text, and includes additions and completions by Rabbeinu Yaakov of Lissa to his renowned and fundamental work Derech HaChaim, which were sent to the publisher and added to this Siddur, printed during his lifetime. The prayer book is adorned with the approbation by Rabbeinu Akiva Eiger, whose name also appears among the subscribers at its end, along with other Gedolei Hador. In this prayer book, the HaGra's commentary on Pirkei Avot was added for the first time in prayer books. ”Seder Tefillat Yisrael Im Derech HaChaim, includes a collection of new and old Dinim pertaining to the order of prayer throughout the year, all compiled... and collected... by... the true Gaon Rav... Rabbi Yaakov [Lorberbaum], Av Bet Din of Lissa. First printed in the holy community of Sholkov [1828], and now printed for a second time [in fact, this is the fourth edition, but the first with additions and corrections by the author] with several additions and corrections: A. correction of all the errors that appeared in the earlier editions, B. additions of omissions from the Rav the author, C. rules of Dinei Muktzeh and Dinei Birkat Hanehenin by the Rav the author, D. commentary on Hallel by the Rav the author, E. a wonderful commentary on Pirkei Avot by the true Gaon Rabbeinu Eliyahu of Vilna, F. Seder haparashiyot and Yom Kippur Katan and Selichot and Ma'aravit [!]”. Edited by Rabbi Chaim Pollack of Ravitsh. Altona - 1831. Stefansky Sifrei Yesod 416 of the additions. [2], 3-285 [3] leaves. This copy has a title cover (see below) instead of the original title page, which is here completed by photocopy. A fine copy. Stains and minor blemishes. New binding - its backboard is wrapped in new paper to preserve the original wrapper mounted on it. Bibliographically Unrecorded Title Covers In this copy, front and back pink title covers were added, which are not bibliographically recorded. On the front cover are the words of the publisher detailing the merits of the Sidur in Yiddish and signed ”יגאול ישראל לפ”ק [תקצ”א], דברי המעתיר חיים בהמנוח מהו' משה ז”ל מראוויטש”. The back cover bears the printer's name. These covers are not in the various libraries and have not been bibliographically recorded in any listings to date. The Siddur and Its Merits Siddur, custom of Poland, Ashkenaz version. Based on the first edition of Derech HaChaim Zholkva, 1928. With the additions referred to by the title page and Seder Haparashiyot (at the end of the book) as stated in Rabbi Akiva Eiger's approbation:  ”כאשר ראיתי במכתב הגאון הנ”ל לו שהרשהו להדפיס הסידור הנ”ל וששלח לו עוד דינים מחודשים לחבר הכל במחברת אחד” [as I have seen in a letter by the above Gaon that he permitted to print the above Siddur and send him additional Dinim to compile everything in a single book]. The Ma'aravot Piyyutim were not printed and were replaced by Hoshanot Piyyutim (as stated on the last page). HaGra's commentary on Avot was published previously in Masechet Avot, Shklow 1804. The commentary on the Hallel is from the Ma'asseh Nissim commentary on the Haggadah authired by Rabbi Yaakov of Lissa. In addition, a commentary on Tefillat Amidah of Rosh Hashana  (”Atah Zocher Ma'asseh Olam”) by Rabbi Yaakov of Lissa was also printed. Dinei Rosh Chodesh Adar and Pidyon Haben by Rabbi Yaakov of Lissa were added for the first time to this edition (see: Pinchas Menachem Lifshitz, About the Identity of the Writer of Dinei Rosh Chodesh Adar and Pidyon Haben of the Derech HaChaim Siddur (Hebrew), Kovetz Beit Aharon VeYisrael, IV (94), Nissan-Iyar 2001, pp. 136-138).  Approbations and Subscribers At the end of the book, approbations by Rabbi Akiva Yisrael Wertheimer Av Beit Din of Altona, Rabbeinu Akiva Eiger titled here ”Rabban shel Kol Bnei HaGolah” and Rabbi Aharon Yosha Eliyahu Hertzfeld Av Beit Din of Ravitsh - the Pnei Yehoshua's grandson. These are followed by a list of subscribers which includes the names of the approbating rabbis and additional leading contemporary rabbis.  On the title page of the book, an ownership signature: ”בונים? פרענקל”. On its verso, notations of births and passings, signed at their end:  ”הק' מנחם מן בן מהו”ר שמחה בונים”.
